LABORATORY
 

 

Otto Kaiser Memorial Hospital Laboratory offers both hospital inpatient and outpatient services. The laboratory is open for outpatients Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. 

 

Most testing is performed daily with results available to your doctor that same day. Other laboratory testing is available through contract with quality reference laboratories. Computer links with these laboratories insure rapid response of testing information.

 

 

 
PHYSICAL THERAPY
 

 

Physical Therapy Dept provides outpatient, inpatient, and home health physical therapy services. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. Scope of services includes treatment of musculoskeletal, orthopedic, neurological, and sports injuries. At OKMH we have a “hands-on” approach in rehabilitation treatment: therapeutic massage and modalities and re-education. Objectives of Physical Therapy include prevention of disability and pain and restoration of function and relief of pain.

 

 
NURSING SERVICE
 



Should your doctor decide that you need to be in the hospital, Otto Kaiser Memorial Hospital offers in-patient services.  Your care is directed by your physician and provided by skilled professional nurses including: Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, and Nurse Aides.  Our staff is committed to providing quality nursing care in a family friendly environment 24-hours a day, seven days a week.

 

 

 
EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT
 

 

Our Emergency Department is staffed with highly qualified Emergency Physicians as well as skilled nursing staff 24-hours a day.  The Emergency Department is ready to care for any major medical conditions.  We are here to provide for all your emergency needs.

 
SURGICAL DEPARTMENT
 

 

Otto Kaiser Memorial Hospital is ready to serve you in the event that you need surgical services.  Our operating room is staffed with experienced, qualified nursing staff who work alongside our physicians.  We provide care for numerous conditions that require surgical intervention. 

 

Orthopedic Procedures: Open Carpal Tunnel Repairs, Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel Repairs, Release Trigger Fingers, Knee Arthroscopies, Open Reduction Internal Fixations, Wrist Fractures, and Hardware Removal.

General Surgery Procedures: Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, Open Cholecystectomy, Hernia Repair, Mastectomies, Excision of Soft Tissue Masses, Excision of Legions, Appendectomies, and Tubal Ligations

GYN: Diagnostic Laparoscopies, D and C's, and Tubal Ligations

Eye Procedures: Cataract Extractions with Lens Implants, Excision of Pterygium, Entropion and Ectropion Repair

 

Our surgical staff is available should you have questions about the procedure your physician has scheduled for you. 

 
SWING BED PROGRAM
 

 

The Swing Bed Program at Otto Kaiser Memorial Hospital provides a unique opportunity to maintain continuity of care, following an acute illness, through adequate medical supervision by highly trained and qualified staff.  The patient can receive Swing Bed Services in the same room without transfer to another facility.  A number of services are available through the Swing Bed Program including: Skilled Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Wound Care, Respiratory Therapy, Activities, and Discharge Planning.  Benefits include; ready access to the physician, ability to learn self-care skills that increase independence, decrease anxiety, and promotes a natural transition to the home setting, and when the patient remains in a local facility, family and friends are able to visit, giving the emotional support necessary to well-being and recovery. 

 

 
CARDIOPULMONARY SERVICE
 

 

Our Cardiopulmonary Service Department is fully staffed by Registered and Certified Cardiopulmonary Therapists who are in house 24 hours per day, seven days per week. They serve our patients with a great deal of care and compassion and are a vital part of our hospital ER team.

  1. Therapeutic treatment is provided for the management, care and control of various pulmonary diseases and conditions.

  2. Ventilatory support and airway management is provided by our therapists in the emergency room setting.

  3. Pulmonary Function Testing and cardiac diagnostics such as EKG and Holter Monitoring are provided to assist in the diagnostic process.

  4. Smoke Cessation Counseling is done free of charge for all our patients and employees as well as anyone in the community that is in need of assistance with ending tobacco dependence.

  5. A free quarterly newsletter “Karnes County Easy Breather’’ is put out by this department to inform and encourage those interested in smoke cessation.
 
RADIOLOGY
 

 

The Otto Kaiser Memorial Hospital Radiology Department offers patients comprehensive imaging services, and is firmly committed to providing the highest image quality possible.  Our services include x-ray and mobile ultrasound (abdominal, OB/GYN, vascular) along with MRI on a 1.5 magnet machine and Cat Scan (CT) using a 16 slice CT machine, both of which are the largest between San Antonio and Corpus Christi. Echocardiograms are done as well.

 

Mammography services are available 7 days a week.

When your Loved One Needs Care :: There's No Place Like Home

What is home health?

Home health services are medical services provided to you in your home under a plan of treatment that is individually prescribed for you by your MD.

 

 

Goals for home health are to:

Ensure safe and appropriate treatment at home; to provide the necessary medical supplies as ordered that best meet your needs; to monitor your condition during your convalescence or rehabilitation and alert your MD to early signs or symptoms of complications; to teach you, a member of your family, or a friend how to care for your medical needs and treatments; to share with you important information about your medications, diet, and your disease process.

 

 

What services are available?

 

Skilled nursing for: assessment of condition, vital signs, catheter changes and care; dressing changes to wounds/incisions; diabetic instruction; ostomy care; blood draws for labs; injections; home IV infusion; instruct on use of equipment such as oxygen or glucometer; instruct on your disease processes and make referrals to other agencies such as provider services.


Home Health Aide: assist with bathing; personal care; ambulation; skin care; exercises; assess vital signs; and light house keeping.


Physical Therapy: gait training; strengthening training; home exercise program; massage and ultrasound; and instruction on becoming independent in home.

 

 

Who qualifies for these services?  

Anyone who can use home health assistance during  an acute illness; anyone who has been discharged from a hospital, nursing home  or rehab hospital; post surgical care; anyone with a new diagnosis or new medications.

 

 

Who pays for these services?

Medicare will pay for home health services 100% as long as the patient remains homebound. The patient must be homebound which means they are not driving. They leave their homes only for medical care; dental appts; church; beauty shop and  in frequent absences from the home.


Medicaid and other major private insurances also pay home health benefits.

OUTPATIENT TREATMENT & WOUND CARE
 

Outpatient

 

Provides licensed nursing care to Outpatients. This includes:

• Advanced wound care by a certified wound care specialist
• IV Therapy such as antibiotics, Reclast and Iron infusions
• Iinjections and minor procedures
